Simon
What are your main tasks in your position?
As an IRATA rope access level 3 supervisor I oversee the working at height procedures within the wind energy convertor, ensuring the appropriate rigging methodology and regulatory compliance is applied to access and egress our place of work. I am also trained in certain energy isolation procedures which are needed to be performed before we can access certain areas of the wind energy converter. And finally I am responsible for carrying out the inspection, repair and maintenance requirements on the rotor blades of the wind energy convertor.
What do you like best about your job and why?
The relationships you forge. I have met so many people over the many years, and some are really special friends.
Climbing in the south of France 2008
What inspired you to work in rope access?
The inspiration originally came from my keen interest and participation in rock climbing. From there it was a natural progression for me into industrial rope access.
What’s one memorable experience you’ve had on the job?
There's been too many, to single one out would be an injustice to the rest!
If someone wanted to join the industry, what advice would you give them?
Persevere, whilst remaining attentive to your intuition.
